| Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us. ~ Hal Borland
Year-end is an excellent time to look back at the activities of the past 12 months. What did we accomplish? What changes did we implement and what worked? We can analyze the data, reflect on the experiences and apply the findings to strategize new plans, make changes and implement new technology and processes to truly make our business and operations safer, more secure and more productive. In the world of industrial wireless applications and process automation, there are many tools to help us make improvements in 2012. Here are a few:
- Build a business case for new industrial applications and expand your existing wireless infrastructure. This white paper, Building a Business Case for Industrial Wireless Applications, will provide you with best practices, core economic benchmarks and performance metrics that you can use when developing your strategy and plans for deploying wireless and industrial applications.
- Conduct a wireless analysis and site assessment of your facility. Wireless experts can provide you with a wireless analysis that includes RF site assessment reports, application roadmaps, and integrated architecture plans for both wired and wireless systems at your facility and much more.
- Leverage Industry Experts. Visit industry analyst sites for market reports, podcasts and webinars and research media editorials covering your core projects and challenges. If possible, attend a technology or industry specific conference relevant to your strategy. These events not only provide sessions on available solutions and technology but also provide a venue to meet others in your industry that can share their experiences.
- Research other facilities' industrial application implementations. Learn from others' experiences by researching case studies online or visiting other facilities, either within your organization or close to your plant, that have successfully implemented game-changing applications and systems.
- Resolve to expand your current infrastructure or implement a basic application in 2012. Minimize your new system costs by incrementally building or expanding your wireless infrastructure with a starter kit. Wireless starter kits include components such as network infrastructure, video monitoring and wireless sensor devices and can be implemented in just a few days.
- Start on your 2013 budget planning early. Why wait? Start planning the goals, strategy and new systems for your facility early in the new year. The sooner you start to map out your 2013 plan, the sooner you can finalize your budget.
So we say farewell to 2011, but we will take the lessons learned and apply our growing wisdom and experience to improve our plant operations in 2012.

Industrial Enterprises Reap Fast ROI from Wireless Applications With Apprion's Introduction of its Low-Cost 'ION QuickStart' Kit
Rapid Implementation of ION QuickStart Jumpstarts Greater Security, Safety, Productivity and Compliance
Mountain View, CA – December 6, 2011 – Apprion recently announced ION QuickStart, industrial application starter kits that enable companies to incrementally build their wireless application infrastructure or extend wireless controls within a facility at a fraction of the cost and time it takes to install more network-wide systems. ION QuickStart provides the quickest path for discovering or expanding on the real-time benefits of wireless monitoring systems and applications to improve safety, security, and efficiency, and meet compliance mandates. Apprion Professional Services installs the "lighthouse application" starter kits for Video, Condition Monitoring and Network Management in just a few days.
Industry analyst Harry Forbes of ARC Advisory Group comments, "For industrial applications that use wireless, much of the initial investment represents infrastructure. This can make early projects struggle to clear capital project ROI hurdles. Apprion's QuickStart responds to this difficulty by reducing cost, uncertainty, and time-to-value for smaller projects. As a more solid infrastructure grows, future projects can leverage it."
