Video systems are making believers out of 55% of manufacturing facilities.

Over the past year, more than 200 industrial facilities participated in two separate surveys on the use of video applications in industrial facilities. These two surveys were conducted almost a one year apart in order to capture changes in the perceived benefits, drivers, and barriers to the use of video applications. This research report is the third in the series on the State of Industrial Wireless 2010. Remote video monitoring can help address the challenges of increasingly complex regulations, an aging work force that will diminish the pool of skilled workers and the inherent problems of most processing facilities for plant safety, security and operations. In this report, we focus on industrial video applications, the current state of implementation, and the issues driving video adoption today compared to almost a year ago. Key discoveries include:

• Use of video applications by industrial facilities increased a robust 19.5% from 2009 to 2010
• Compliance with security and safety regulations continues to be the primary driver for adoption
• The number one obstacle to adoption in 2010 is the lack of internal video expertise
