MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – November 18th, 2014 – Apprion, the leader of intelligent industrial applications and services for the process manufacturing industry, announced their latest addition to the ION Safety Application suite, the ION Smoke Detection Application. Apprion’s ION Smoke Detection Application provides critical early warning and highly reliable smoke detection at the earliest presence of smoke and fire. Designed and engineered for reliability and built for operation in harsh environments, ION Smoke Detection’s ability to detect the earliest presence of smoke in industrial facilities adds one more level of safety for personnel and facilities.

The ION Smoke Detection Application provides early warning smoke detection by actively sampling air for even the smallest particles of smoke to detect potential fire at the earliest stage possible. With such early warning, there is time to mitigate risk of catastrophic loss and operational disruption and stage an appropriate response to avoid the dangers of smoke and fire. In addition, having a critical, extremely reliable wireless smoke detection system like the ION Smoke Detection Application reduces insurance costs and helps facilities comply with strict industrial safety regulations.

The ION Smoke Detection Application’s smoke detector continually draws surrounding air into a chamber to detect the presence of very small amounts of smoke. If the measured smoke content exceeds a pre-defined threshold, condition indication alerts and status information is sent to the integrated ION System for immediate response. 09.30.2014 – Apprion Implements ION Commissioning Application With Proven Scheduling ROI At TPC Group, Houston Operations


HOUSTON, TX – September 30th, 2014 – Apprion, the leader of intelligent industrial applications and services for the process manufacturing industry, announced the completion of the ION Commissioning project and wireless infrastructure implementation at the TPC Group site in Houston, TX. TPC Group Houston Operations partnered with Apprion to help streamline and automate the commissioning process for their new Houston facility. TPC Group identified that they could get their facility up and running safely, in a much quicker and smoother manner with an automated commissioning solution that improves project scheduling and reduces loop commissioning time and equipment outage.

“TPC Group has worked with our wireless partner Apprion to support the first ever wireless enabled field commissioning solution at a major chemical facility” said Paul Berwanger, TPC Group Process Control Manager. “By using Apprion’s ION Commissioning application, we have been able to dramatically increase our loop check efficiency to keep us on track to deliver on a major capital project at our Houston plant.”

The first phase of the wireless application strategy at TPC Group involves the Apprion ION Commissioning Application. ION Commissioning includes industrial hardened tablets with the ability to run TPC Group’s Distributed Control Systems and asset management programs. Utilizing these industrial tablets, the commissioning and loop check teams can efficiently conduct loop checks and get instant verification of a successful loop deployment, without having to communicate back to the control room – thus streamlining the control room process. In addition, ION Commissioning enables several teams to run in parallel, which was previously not possible.

TPC Group has estimated a very near term payback on the investment as a result of its ability to use the wireless infrastructure to navigate through the commissioning process quicker.

ION Commissioning reduces the time of loop commissioning and equipment checkout and reduces the operation outage time during the commissioning phase. The end result is that the process is turned over to operations much more quickly than using traditional methods.

“Apprion’s project team performed exceptionally well. They were tasked with a very aggressive schedule and delivered the product on time, under budget and with full functionality. Apprion’s team went the extra mile to ensure the success of the project,” added Paul.

As part of the ION Commissioning deployment, Apprion worked with TPC Group Houston Operations to create a blueprint for their wireless deployment by conducting a wireless site application survey and plan. Apprion’s team of wireless and industrial experts conducted the on-site survey and plan, which included comprehensive wireless spectrum analysis, various grid simulation output with signal power levels and a technical evaluation of the site’s existing infrastructure and technology. Using the survey results, Apprion’s team defined a clear strategy and plan for TPC Group’s Houston facility wireless infrastructure implementation and future expansion of the wireless network and applications. 09.24.2014 – Apprion Supports Safety Commitment At BASF Site In Freeport, Texas With Innovative ION Mustering Application


Freeport, TX – September 24th, 2014 – Apprion, the leader of intelligent industrial applications and services for the process manufacturing industry, today announced its latest project with BASF Corporation in Freeport, Texas, that is designed to further enhance safety, security and operational excellence at the manufacturing facility.

The BASF site in Freeport and Apprion recently deployed the Apprion ION Mustering Application, which provides real-time information and communication about the status of employees and contractors if the site were to have an emergency situation.

BASF’s Freeport site partnered with Apprion in 2012 to build a wireless infrastructure to support numerous applications. Since personnel safety is the highest value at BASF, the work began with a site survey, building the network and the first application: ION Video. The ION Mustering Application was next on the list.

The ION Mustering Application process works in the following manner: In the event of an emergency requiring personnel to seek safety at designated mustering areas, emergency notification sirens sound an alert. Each mustering area has a solar powered ION Mustering Tower – a stationary access point for real-time personnel check-in during emergencies.

The ION Mustering Tower uses a visual strobe light for notification during emergencies, ensuring that it will be seen by everyone on site. Workers check in to the mustering area with their personal IONite tags, and the tower’s WiFi reader automatically updates the system that the specific person is accounted for. The automated wireless system and efficient backhaul reader eliminates manual processes and provides visual confirmation of the safety of personnel in the integrated ION Dashboard.

Mountain View, CA – August 7th, 2014 – Apprion, the leader of intelligent industrial applications and services for the process manufacturing industry, today announced the ION Contractor Management Application. 01.29.2014 – Dakota Gasification Company – Beulah, North Dakota – Partners with Apprion to Complete Industrial Site Plan

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, JANUARY 29, 2014 – Apprion, the leader of Industrial Wireless Application Systems and Services for the process manufacturing industry, announced the completion of an Industrial Application Site Plan at the Dakota Gasification Company (DGC) facility in Beulah, North Dakota. Dakota Gasification Company is a for‐profit subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative that owns and operates the Great Plains Synfuels Plant. The Synfuels Plant in Beulah, North Dakota, is the only commercial‐scale coal gasification plant in the United States that manufactures natural gas.

Eight years ago, the DGC Great Plains Synfuels Plant initiated a project to create a sustainable operation with a mission to keep synthetic natural gas production costs at a minimum and ensure sustainability. Dakota Gas partnered with Apprion ION Services to conduct an ION Site Plan to evaluate the current facility infrastructure and put together a strategic application and wireless plan that would help them meet their goal of a sustainable operation. The ION Services team spent ten days at the DGC Beulah facility measuring and gathering data to determine the placement of RF transceivers and network devices that would comprise a facility‐wide wireless infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the ION Site Plan, DGC Beulah received a 250 page strategic site report with the wireless and RF site assessment results, recommendations for detailed implementation planning and an extensive report mapping out the most efficient and cost‐effective path for moving forward with various wireless applications to reach their sustainability and production cost goals at the Synfuels Plant.

“The ION Site Plan is the strategic first step for many larger projects. We are looking forward to the safety, security and productivity improvements that partnering with Apprion can provide our facility,” said Rod Wetsch, Supervisor Control Systems at the Beulah facility. “In addition, these strategic application plans will allow the DGC Beulah facility to benchmark work processes with its industry peers in comparison to areas such as reliability, safety, environmental protection, work efficiency, business systems and security.”

With the ION Site Plan assessment complete, the next step to achieving Dakota Gas’s goal is Phase 1 which includes implementing a site‐wide wireless infrastructure to support the first two industrial ION Applications: ION Location and ION Access Control. This site‐wide infrastructure will include approximately 140 Apprion IONizers. IONizers are industrial field appliances, the backbone of the network integrating wireless and wired sensor network gateways to support all industrial applications within the plant.

The ION Location and ION Access Control applications include an integrated dashboard interface that will track all personnel and contractors equipped with the Apprion IONiteTM Wireless Personnel tags. Dakota Gas will equip approximately 1000+ plant personnel and contractors with the IONite tags (small, battery operated WiFi personnel tags). ION Location tracks and monitors employees and contractors via a map‐based graphical interface and ION Access Control shows all personnel entering and exiting defined areas of a facility for the highest level of safety, security and accountability of all personnel.

Multi-million dollar agreement names Apprion as core technology and services provider for safety, security, compliance and performance projects

FREEPORT, TX, SEPTEMBER 3, 2013 — BASF Corporation announced today it has selected Apprion as the sole source provider of industrial wireless applications, systems and services for its North America manufacturing facilities. BASF and Apprion have finalized an initial $10 million purchase agreement for multiple application projects to be implemented over the next two years. These applications will enable BASF facilities to address their industrial safety, security, compliance and performance initiatives via Apprion’s systems and services offering.
