Product Manager

Responsibilities
  • Design application interface and features based on the Scrum Agile Software Development Framework approach.
  • Clearly understand the user experience and apply to application design.
  • Key contributor in the  application feature design and product life cycle process.
  • Manage market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research and gathering management and customer input.
  • Manage product life cycle communication across development teams (Development/Engineering, Services and Sales/Marketing).
  • Analyze potential partner relationships for applications.
  • Provide input on competitive analysis, pricing and application demos.
Required Skills
  • 7+ years of Web user design and experience.

Inside Sales

Responsibilities
  • Internal sales, both lead qualifying and moving leads through the pipeline
  • Full time salaried position
  • Commission and/or bonus in addition to salary based on defined quota

Required Skills
  • Industrial processing experience, ideally 2-5 years (the type of experience is flexible: selling to industry/facilities, working at a facility, customer services for industrial processing)
  • Industrial processing language and operations experience and knowledge

Senior Account Manager

The Senior Account Manager position will be primarily responsible for identifying, developing and managing end user relationships and assist in positioning the organization for sustained profitable growth. Interface with OEM’s and Distributors will be required.

Responsibilities
  • Meet or exceed annual sales order and revenue plans, which contribute to corporate profit and growth objectives.
  • Consistently identify new business opportunities at existing and potential customers served direct and through distribution, to ensure sustained profitable growth.

Java Software Engineer

Apprion is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished, bright and self-motivated Java Developer to join the team as a Software Engineer in our facility in Mountain View, CA. This position will be part of our top notch development team creating a one of a kind solution for Industrial monitoring and application integration, specializing in wireless systems. This position is located at Apprion corporate headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

Required Skills

Remote Wireless Network Management Lead Engineer

Apprion is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished, bright and self-motivated network management expert and operations center leader to join the team as Lead Engineer of our Wireless Network Access Facility in Mountain View, CA.

This position will initially be responsible for defining and implementing best practices for streamlined operations of our Network Access Facility, from which we remotely monitor and manage customer wireless networks and applications. You will work closely with the customers, and the rest of the Apprion Engineering and Services teams to identify issues with customer deployments impacting: performance, reliability, and security. This is proactive wireless network management, where we identify and resolve problems before the customer ever sees them and become an invaluable partner to the customer as they roll out new value added applications.

This position is located at Apprion corporate headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Define and Implement best practices for a remote network monitoring/management operation to deliver best-in-class service.
  • Manage the customer interfaces to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Define key metrics and reports (performance, reliability, security) to share with the customer and Apprion senior management to demonstrate service value.
  • Establish, prioritize, and implement a rapid response system for incoming alerts indicating problems in the customer’s network.
  • Work with field wireless engineers to diagnose and recommend remedies for problems identified from Apprion’s management console.
  • Build, configure and deploy remote Linux based network monitoring and control systems.
  • Work closely with clients to build systems that meet their requirements.
  • Work closely with Apprion’s embedded firmware and software development teams, offering feedback from the field.
  • Be a point of contact for customers to resolve technical issues post-deployment.
Required Skills
  • 3 – 5 years min. experience as a lead member of a Managed Services or Network Monitoring business.
  • 3 – 5 years min. experience with competitive network and security monitoring management solutions (HP OpenView, Counterpane, Cisco, etc.).
  • 3 – 5 years min. experience with network/device management using SNMP.
  • 3 – 5 years min. experience monitoring, managing, and troubleshooting customer networks.
  • Rock solid knowledge of networking concepts: TCP/IP, HTTP/S, SSH, UDP, IP routing, etc.

Wireless Field Engineer/Consultant

Apprion is seeking a bright and self-motivating individual to join the team as a Wireless Engineer specializing in outdoor industrial wireless network deployments. This position is to be located either at Apprion corporate headquarters in Mountain View, CA or in the southeastern Texas (Austin through Houston) corridor.

Responsibilities
  • Perform in-depth site surveys using spectrum analyzers, GPS, radio hardware, and other survey tools.
  • Write detailed reports and proposals for wireless systems based on the findings of site surveys performed.
  • Design and develop hybrid outdoor wireless systems integrating Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Zigbee, Bluetooth, RFID, and other emerging wireless technologies.
  • Deploy, test, and tune mission critical all-weather outdoor wireless systems.
  • Build, configure and deploy remote Linux based network monitoring and control systems.
  • Work closely with clients to build systems that meet their requirements.
  • Work closely with the embedded firmware and software development teams, offering feedback from the field.
Required Skills
  • Extensive, hands-on experience designing/creating the mentioned software components.
  • 5+ years of strong/solid experience with wireless system deployments.
  • Complete familiarity with 802.11 and 802.16 wireless standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of wireless fundamentals: Link Budgeting, Effect of Multipath, Fresnel Zone, etc. Strong/solid knowledge of wireless security.

Management Team

Doug Donzelli / CEO

Doug has founded and managed many successful technology ventures over the last 20 years. Most recently, he served as a Board Director and General Manager of Strategos, Inc., an innovation commercialization and strategy development firm serving the Fortune 100, whose clients include IBM, Nokia, Applied Materials, Royal Dutch Shell, Roche and Whirlpool.

Prior to Strategos, Doug was founder and CEO of Pensare, Inc., the provider of the first international, accredited MBA program based on offerings from 4 of the top 10 U.S. business schools.

From 1992-1996, Doug served as Senior Vice President of Engineering for NetManage, Inc., an Internet infrastructure company, where he was responsible for worldwide product development. During his tenure, NetManage launched over a dozen new products and became the fastest growing corporation in the U.S. (1994 and 1995). Prior to NetManage, Doug served as Vice President at Novell, Inc., where he oversaw Novell’s NetWare, UnixWare and AppWare professional developer strategy products. He joined Novell through the acquisition of Software Transformation, Inc. (STI), a software development tool vendor where he was Founder, Chairman and Vice President of Engineering.

Doug currently serves as a board member to Kahala Code and Ripple Effects and is a founding advisor of DragonBridge Capital.

Doug attended the University of California, Berkeley.

 

Venkat Bahl / VP Sales

As Apprion’s Vice President of Sales, Venkat Bahl is responsible for Apprion’s sales, business development and providing leadership for growth across the range of Apprion’s offerings and channels.

Venkat brings almost 20 years of senior sales, business development and marketing skills, as well as 17 years of wireless experience to Apprion’s team. Prior to Apprion, Venkat was the Director of WiFi and WirelessHART Sales at Emerson Process Management Systems and Field Instrumentation. During his 5 years at Emerson, Venkat’s core focus was plant-wide wireless sales, building a multi-tier channel structure and training the external sales channel to create a sustainable, scalable, customer facing organization.  Prior to Emerson, Venkat held various positions in Senior Sales and Marketing at technology companies such as Discera as Vice-President of World-wide Sales, Marketing and Operations and Ember Corporation as Vice President Marketing and Business Development.

Venkat holds a B.A. in Economics,  as well as an M.A. in Economics, from Loyola College.

 

Elizabeth Miyagi / VP Finance

Liz Miyagi is Vice President of Finance at Apprion. Liz is responsible for overseeing all financial, human resources, inventory and administrative operations for the company. With over twenty years experience in corporate finance, Liz has spent the last fourteen years building finance and operations in start-up organizations and brings a wealth of experience to Apprion.

Prior to joining Apprion, Liz was Controller for Boomerang.com, an email marketing campaign service provider. At Boomerang.com, Liz was instrumental in streamlining procedures in the company’s financial, human resource and sales departments. Previously, Liz has held various finance and controller positions at companies such as IBM and Mockingbird Networks, where she was responsible for the company’s accounting, finance, human resources, budgeting, inventory, financial system implementations and helped secure the company’s Series E financing.

Liz holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Hawaii and an MBA from San Jose State University.

 

Sarah Prinster / VP Marketing

As Apprion’s Vice President of Marketing, Sarah Prinster is responsible for Apprion’s corporate and product messaging, positioning, branding, and industry communication as well as internal sales.

Sarah brings 20 years of marketing and product development experience in enterprise software and hardware as well as over 10 years of wireless experience to Apprion’s team. Prior to Apprion, Sarah was the Director of Marketing at Savi Technology, a leading provider of RFID solutions for global supply chain visibility. During her 6 years at Savi, Sarah helped redefine Savi’s marketing strategy and brand in new commercial markets and launched Savi into the chemical industry. Prior to Savi, Sarah held various positions in product management and marketing at enterprise software companies such as Brio Technology, NetObjects and GMI Software.

Sarah holds a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. 

 

Wade Smith / Director of Professional Services

Wade Smith leads Apprion’s world-class services organization to deliver industrial wireless application systems. Wade has over 30 years experience in Process Control and Information Technology with major companies such as Shell, Basell, Oxy, Union Carbide, and Amoco in addition to leading services organizations within these companies. He provided leadership and technical solutions for Shell North America as Service Delivery Manager for the Basell NA sites.

Wade has developed and created network infrastructures for previous companies and has led the Apprion professional services team in many wireless installations. He brings his experience and project methodologies, which have been successful, proven, and repeatable in the industry.

Wade holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Kennedy Western University, and training with the US Navy’s Naval Tactical Defense System.

 

Warren Smith / VP Products

Warren Smith is Vice President of Products at Apprion. Warren is responsible for Apprion’s entire ION product family, including hardware engineering, software engineering and product management. With over thirty years experience in technology, Warren brings extensive product development knowledge and engineering expertise to Apprion.

Warren began his networking career at Sun Microsystems, where he was Director of Sun’s Distributed Computing Group and helped spearhead the development of the CORBA standard. After his tenure there, Warren was VP of Engineering at a series of successful networking and network security companies, including NetManage (acquired by Micro Focus), SonicWall, Concentric Networks, IP Dynamics, and Mirapoint. Prior to joining Apprion, Warren was Senior Vice President of Engineering at IronKey, Inc, a global leader in secure managed portable storage, authentication, and trusted virtual computing with secure, FIPS 140-2 flash drives.

Board of Directors

Charles P. Stetson

Mr. Stetson is a Managing Director and co-founder of PEI. Since co-founding PEI, Mr. Stetson has been involved in all aspects of the firm’s development and investment process. Currently, Mr. Stetson serves on the Advisory Board of SightLine Partners and is a Board Member of Apprion and Nuclea Biotechnologies, two PEI portfolio companies. Mr. Stetson was previously a Managing Director of Venture Capital Fund of America (“VCFA”), where he led the firm’s U.S. investment practice. Mr. Stetson received his B.A. from Yale University, an M.B.A. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and an honorary L.L.B. from Concordia University – Portland.

John E. Hebert

 John Hebert is a Vice President and Senior Investment Officer at Ashford Capital Management, a small cap growth fund, where he focuses primarily on investments in the technology and business services sectors.  Prior to joining Ashford Capital, John was a Vice President at Trident Capital, a leading venture capital firm that provides growth capital to software and technology-enabled services companies.  John joined Trident after serving as Director of Business Development at Ask Jeeves, where he helped lead the business development efforts for Ask.com.  Prior to Ask Jeeves, John worked in Internet investment banking at Robertson Stephens.  John began his career at Deloitte & Touche in San Francisco.  

John received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and an MA in Organizational Behavior and a BA in Political Science from Stanford University.

Jude P. Laspa

Jude Laspa, 70, is a retired Executive Vice President and Director of Bechtel Group, Inc. (BGI).  Prior to his retirement at the end of 2009, Laspa, served as sponsor of the Bechtel Fellows Program (world-class technical specialists) as well as being a member of a number of corporate committees. Previous to August 2007, when he requested to start the process toward retirement, he was the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of BGI for four-and-one-half years. Before this, he was President of Bechtel’s Asia Pacific region, responsible for all of Bechtel’s engineering and construction work in Asia and Oceania. Mr. Laspa holds a B.S., Engineering with honors, from Harvey Mudd College and an M.B.A. from University of Chicago.

Matt McElhattan

Matt McElhattan has more than 15 years of industrial experience serving in both technical and consultative capacities at small private companies and large public companies.

Prior to joining Chevron, McElhattan worked at several venture backed startups doing business development and project management. As a management consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ supply chain practice he was focused on deploying Web-based supply-chain models and completing integrated supply-chain analysis for a variety of clients in the high tech sector.

Earlier McElhattan led market and feasibility analysis for new technologies at Ducker Worldwide, focusing on market size, product design, segmentation and target applications. Matt is currently the Board Observer for Modumetal, RealityMobile, Apprion, Soane Energy and Sample6.

Robert R. Ackerman, Jr.

Bob Ackerman is the Managing Director and Founder of Allegis Capital. Mr. Ackerman has more than fifteen years of general management, venture capital, and strategic mergers and acquisition advisory experience working with information technology start-up companies and multinational corporations.  His operating experience includes: CEO of UniSoft Systems, and founder and Chairman of InfoGear Technology Corporation. Mr. Ackerman is also a leading speaker and an author on the subjects of venture capital, innovation & entrepreneurism, cyber security as well as Corporate Venture Capital. Mr. Ackerman is a current member of the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco-based Asian Art Museum.  Additionally, he is a guest lecturer at Stanford University and is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of California’s Haas Graduate School of Business – lecturing on New Venture Finance.
