CTO - Peter Fuhr

As CTO and Co-founder of Apprion, Dr. Peter Fuhr brings over 25 years of experience in the areas of communications (optical, wireless and digital), semiconductor lasers, fiber optic sensor systems, and spacecraft experiment design.

Prior to Apprion, Peter was Chief Scientist at RAE Systems, where he spearheaded the integration of intelligent sensing systems with advanced industrial and wireless networking strategies and brought various forms of wireless communications into the RAE Systems product suite. Previously, he held many different positions in academia including his work at San Jose University where his efforts concentrated on integrating sensing systems into wireless communication networks. During 2001 he founded the Institute for Sensors and Wireless Networking which operates under San Jose State University's Metropolitan Research Park.

Peter was a Professor at the University of Vermont with the primary mission of initiating the development of an "Optics" area in the Electrical Engineering Department emphasizing optical and wireless communications. From 1991-1997, Peter served as the co-founder and CEO of VT Sensing, Inc. a company that developed advanced wireless sensing systems for integration into large civil structures. Prior to his work in academia, Peter worked at NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center where his principle tasks involved various aspects of photon-based remote sensing, laser communications and lunar measurements.

Peter is a founder and executive board member of the Wireless Industrial Networking Alliance (WINA), a senior member of IEEE, and chairperson of the interoperability committee within the SP100 standards organization and leading the efforts to develop the standard for wireless in industrial automation. He is a frequent speaker at many industry events on wireless sensors and networking.

Peter holds a B.S. in physics and mathematics from Beloit College. Peter did his masters and doctorate work at John Hopkins University where he received a M.S.E. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering.
